REPORT OF NSS ACTIVITIES 20-21
Objectives:-

Understand the community in which they work
ii. Understand themselves to their community
iii. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
iv. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
v. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR FRESHERS AND TEACHERS
Date: 26/08/2020
Platform: ZOOM
An orientation programme was conducted for second-year students on 26/08/2020 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm virtually using the ZOOM platform. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.T K Mani (Principal ,MGMCET pampakuda).The session was handled by Mr . Shajahan C.M(Programme officer & Indira Gandhi NSS award winner of 2014-15) . Around 90 students and 25 teachers participated in the programme.

Various events were organized for NSS volunteers concerning Onam celebrations
1. Ente Pookkalam:
This competition was to share the pookkalam moments of all the volunteers. The students uploaded an image of onam pookkalam with their family.
3. pazhamayude onakoppukal:
The competition was to share different types of toys of earlier times. The students uploaded a video of 3 minutes that showed the making of any of the toys related to onam like onapanthu,Olapeppi, etc.
5. Onamvum Covidum Pinne njanum:
This competition was to share the thoughts of the covid time onam of all the volunteers.
2. Ente kaipunyam:
The competition was to know the cooking talents of volunteers. The students uploaded a video of 3 minutes that had a preparation of an onam food item
4. Onanimisham:
It was a wonderful and relieving moment for all the volunteers to share their memories of onam days They shared their experiences in the onam celebration in a one minute video
An official gathering for the onam celebration was conducted at 5 pm on 01/09/2020 through the ZOOM platform. Various cultural activities like Onam songs, sequence video Presentations, Thiruvathira, etc… were performed by NSS volunteers. The onam facilitations from staff and former NSS volunteers were also included in the Programme.

ENGINEER’S DAY CRAFT COMPETITION

Platform: Google forms
Craft making competition was held on September 15th and volunteers were asked to make innovative craft items that inspire all engineers to give life to them. It was an interesting competition and there were more than 30 entries from the student’s side. Students were asked to send a photo of the creation through google forms.

OZONE DAY DRAWING COMPETITION
Date: 16/09/2020
Platform: Google forms
Drawing competition based on ozone day held on 16th September. The drawing competition was only held to invoke innovative ideas in volunteers about how to save the ozone layer from depleting. Many volunteers drew very well and winners were also chosen according to art and creativity. Students were asked to submit the entries through google forms.

NSS DAY CELEBRATIONS

The NSS day was celebrated with an official ZOOM meeting. The meeting was inaugurated by Dr. T.K Mani( Principal, MGMCET).NSS day message was given by Sri.AbdulJJbbar Ahamed (Former State programme coordinator TECHNICAL CELL, KERALA). Sri Jacob Itoop ( Administrative Officer, MGMCET, Pampakuda) Gave the keynote address to the volunteers. Also, Former NSS volunteers shared their experiences in NSS during the meeting.

ONLINE TREASURE HUNT

An Online treasure hunt was conducted from Sept 24 to Sept 28. On each day students were involved in participating in different events like quizzes, puzzle-solving, etc. The entries were to be submitted through google forms within a limited time. Volunteers as well as students effectively participated in groups and made the programme a grand success.

A LETTER TO GANDHIJI

In association with the Gandhijaynthi celebrations, NSS units of our college organized a Letter-writing Campaign, in which students are requested to write a letter which is supposed to be Gandhiji. The letter can contain any issues related to social, political, and religious aspects of current India. Around 20 students Participated in the event

CANCER DAY COLLAGE MAKING COMPETITION

Cancer day collage making competition was held on February 4th. Volunteers were asked to collect different pictures and make them into a collage of many pictures conveying different messages as awareness to everyone who sees cancer as a defective disease. Volunteers as a part of the competition were asked to submit the pictures in google forms.

COVID VACCINATION HELP DESK
Start Date: 01/03/2021
Students were instructed to help the people in their surroundings for Covid vaccine registration in the Cowin portal. The students were asked to submit the details of people, registered through google forms.

ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS

As part of world environment day, the NSS units of our college organized various events for volunteers.
1. Plant a Tree challenge
Students were asked to plant a tree in their surroundings and submit the photo through a google form. Around 100 students participated in the event
2. Leaf Album
Students were asked to prepare an album, which contains the leaf of trees in their surroundings and a short description of those trees. The albums were submitted through google forms in pdf format. Around 45 students participated in the event
3. Clean your surroundings
Students were asked to clean their surrounding area and upload a photo of the area before and after cleaning. Around 55 students participated in the event

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON SOCIAL VOLUNTEERING

The session was mainly to give and make all the volunteers aware of social volunteering and about NGOs. The welcome speech was given by program officer Prof. Shajahan C M.The session was handled by a social volunteer cum tutor of ARISE, Ms. SAFNA SHERIN N.

The session was mainly to give and make all the volunteers aware of stress and about how to manage it. The welcome speech was given by program officer Prof. Shajahan C M. The session was handled by a prominent psycho counselor, Ms. JISHA SANISH.

NATIONAL READING DAY CELEBRATIONS
Start Date: 19/06/2021
In association with national reading Day on Jun 19 th, NSS units of our college collaborated with ARISE Wayanadu, to make a library for Children in TKM Orphanage at Varambatta Wayanad. Each student was asked to send one book or the amount for one book to the coordinators of ARISE Wayanadu. Around 60 books were donated by our volunteers.

INTERNATIONAL PLASTIC BAG FREE DAY CELEBRATIONS

In Association with the international plastic bag free day on July 3rd, NSS units of our college organized various events
1. Awareness Programme on Plastic free campus
The session was handled by MR. Dami Paul, former TEACHER TRAINER, EDUCATION DEPARTMENT, KERALA. He inspired the young minds of NSS volunteers by discussing about creating a plastic-free campus. He also emphasized about:

The three R’ s for reducing plastic waste from the environment.

Created a grant awareness on plastic use, impacts created by plastic use, etc.

He also pointed out how to reduce plastic from our daily life by doing small steps by everyone.
2. Suggest an Idea for Plastic-free campus
NSS volunteers were asked to give their ideas to make our campus plastic-free. The entries are accepted through google forms. Around 35 students have participated in the event.
3. Make a Paper bag challenge
NSS volunteers were asked to make a paper bag for our campus. The bags were collected and donated to the college. Around 50 volunteers participated in the event.
4. Make a paper pen challenge
NSS volunteers were asked to make a paper pen for our campus. The pens were collected and donated to the college. Around 50 volunteers participated in the event.
